Athlete Of The Month – September 2016 : Brittney Gibson
September has been an eventful month for Whole Strength CrossFit. We had a few members from our box join forces and head down to CrossFit Talon for our first competition together. And one of those members was our very own Brittney Gibson. She has made some amazing progress during her time here at Whole Strength and we have chosen to acknowledge her for those achievements with this month’s athlete of the month feature. Check out our talk below.

2. What is your favorite WOD?
Hmmm..good question! I’d have to say anything that involves lifting.. deadlifts and snatches are my favorites.
Keeping it… Functional!
3. Least favorite movement?
You would think someone would say Murph or 300 Burpees for time or even Karen (150 wallballs for time) butttt I actually enjoy all of those. I like the challenge each of those give me and looking back afterwards saying “yeah I did that!”
4. Biggest Accomplishment so far?
Definitely completing my first CrossFit competition! It was such a wonderous experience being around so many different people all with an encouraging heart! AND we didn’t come in last! Haha.
Cruising around Nashville is a favorite past time. She’s knows all the cool spots you’ve never heard of.
5. What is your six month goal?
I have many goals and I don’t think I’ll ever be finished but I’m working on getting strict pullups right now!
6. What do you enjoy most about Whole Strength CrossFit?
The fellowship and community at WS is something I’ve never seen before! Everybody is super sweet and we all encourage one another. That’s something I’ll cherish forever and something you don’t see at any other gym.

7. What is your occupation?
I am a dental hygienist! I’ve been working in dentistry for over 6 years!
8. What is your fitness background?
I grew up playing a few different sports but other than that I didn’t really have any fitness role models growing up. I really made the change to be active back in August of last year.

9. How long have you been CrossFitting?
I joined CrossFit 7 months ago!
10. Thoughts after your first CrossFit experience?
Wow… this is intense. It was a love/hate thing at first. I loved the push but it made me step out of my comfort zone doing something I had never done before.
Community is key. These were our teams at our first CrossFit competition. A fine bunch.
I know it may seem a bit overwhelming at first but don’t give up! Keep pushing through to the end because you will look back and realize how far you have come and one day that that mile run will seem like a piece of cake. Trust me, I would know. If you can convince your mind you can accomplish a task then you’re halfway there! Also, don’t forget that we have all been in your shoes at some point in time and we all start somewhere! You got this!!!
Brittney is the ideal box member. She’s always encouraging other athletes and pushes them to finish strong. Her positive attitude is a staple at the box. And her smile is so infectious so you have no choice but to return it with you own.
It’s been a great privilege to see her transition into the stronger woman she has become. And that steady progress is continuing to bring others along as well. Congrats Brittney! You’re going to go far with your current mindset. Thank you for sharing it with the Whole Strength team!
