Athlete Of The Month – July 2016 : Stefi Marcus
Stefi is usually early to each class. Making sure she has plenty of time to warm up.
I remember when Whole Strength CrossFit moved into their first commercial location last year in late October. Stefi was one of the first to sign up for a membership after we finally got moved in and had everything setup. She was super enthusiastic and ready to jump in at full force. By far one of the most consistent people in our box, she has made some amazing gains in the past few months. Her and I have a great hobby of picking at one another and that helps keep the tone of the box lighthearted and never “too serious”. But don’t let her bubbly personality fool you. She is determined to be the best she can be. Let’s hear what she had to say in our recent conversation.
1. How did you come to find out about Whole Strength CrossFit?
I googled “Crossfit boxes near me”. I checked out a couple different ones but just had a good feeling about WS from the beginning.
2. What is your favorite WOD?
Uhhhh…..anything that does not involve rowing! I don’t really have a favorite one. They all suck pretty bad…but in a good way.
Stefi needed all the 10 pound plates for this specific lift.
3. Least favorite Move?
ROWING. It’s evil.
4. Biggest accomplishment so far?
I finally have this whole meal prepping thing down! Thanks to my awesome coach Ryan.
Biggest accomplishment I would have to say my diet for sure. Diet is the hardest and most important part of any workout plan/program…and I can finally say, “I got this!”
On rare occasion… Stefi doesn’t wear workout clothes. Here you can see her outside of her natural habitat. And she’s wearing what some would call a “girly girl” ensemble.
5. What is your six month Goal?
To get a dang pull up!!! And to be able to do more than 2 or 3 double unders without beating myself up lol.
6. What do you enjoy most about Whole Strength CrossFit?
The people and the amazing support I receive from everyone, especially my coaches. I feel very blessed to have such amazing individuals in my life.
WS is like a second home to me especially since I’m there just about every day! So it’s nice to be around so many loving and caring individuals.
7. What is your Occupation?
I am a Bilingual Care Coordinator/Social Worker for Children’s Special Services with the Metro Public Health Department.
I’m also a part time nanny! Yes, I love kids…and dogs!
8. What is your fitness background?
I danced when I was little for 3 years and then cheered for two years. Other than that…nothing really. I have always been a girly girl…until I discovered Crossfit!

9. How long have you been CrossFitting?
I would say about two years now….But more consistently since I started at WS in November. (By consistently I mean Monday-Friday, rain or shine! Unless Rowing is involved)
10. Thoughts after first CrossFit experience?
I’m going to have so many bruises!!!! But it’s the best full body workout in less than 30 minutes. It can’t get any better than that.

What advice would you give to a new CrossFitter?
Do NOT be afraid to try it. I promise you will love it, and you will not regret it one bit. It’s amazing what your body can accomplish!
You do not have to be “in shape” to begin doing Crossfit…I get so frustrated when I hear that. There are modifications for every movement!
You may not have been able to tell from the questions and answers. But Stefi has an extreme work ethic. And I’m fairly sure she was not exaggerating when she said she was at the box almost everyday. If we were open on Sunday…. She would most likely be a Sunday regular as well. That’s what it takes to get stellar results. And she has acquired those gains through hard work and having fun at the same time. I make it a point to put on the “screaming angry music” (as she puts it) as she’s warming up just get a laugh out of her. And because I think it’s hilarious. We can always count on her to be on the sidelines cheering people on as they finish up their last round. And you can typically find her taking her Tupperware of yogurt out before the class starts because she “does better on a full stomach”. She knows what she needs to do. And she does it. Simple. And she has a blast doing it. Stefi is the member that every box needs. She just happened to choose Whole Strength first. And we’re ecstatic to have her as one of our own.
