“It’s funny because I’ve asked myself this same question a LOT in the last few months. “WHY?” Why do I get up at 5 a.m, why do I stress all day (on the days I can’t make the morning class) about the WOD, why do I keep living in a perpetual state of soreness?

And the only answer I can come up with is that, anyone that does it wins…EVERY time.

I win when I actually make it to an early morning class because I’m anything but a morning person. I win when I do even a scaled movement because I’m moving. And I win when I feel sore because that means I worked.

I win because I’m adding years to my life. I have a friend that was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and he has beat it, twice. He was told that because of the great shape he was in (from years of CrossFit) that helped his body fight the disease. He won.

“I’m a project manager for a construction company. So, I don’t have to do a whole lot of heavy lifting like I did when I was younger and doing the grunt work. On the rare occasion that I have to lift something heavy, I’m reminded that I’m not young, anymore. Doing crossfit trains my body to be able to do whatever I may have to do when those crappy moments of having to set my clipboard down and, actually, work comes around.
Other than being able to do physical work, it’s important for me to stay at the top of my health game. I have a couple kids. One of them is taller than me. I have to be able to take him if he catches an attitude. So, gotta stay strong.”

“CrossFit has become very special to me in a short amount of time. I began CrossFit to get in shape, become healthy and strong, and be proud of myself. All of that is starting to happen, but what is also happening is a shift is the way I view fitness. CrossFit has become something that I want to do, not just something that I have to do. Working out for me in the past has felt like a chore. CrossFit is something that I want to do. I love the challenge, the mindset, and the strength that comes with it.
